About the event
Pauli Murray’s thought provoking activism continues to influence the way we look at race, gender, and intersectionality. A poet, writer, lawyer, eventual reverend, and activist, Pauli would coin the term “Jane Crown” in 1944 while attending law school at the illustrious Howard University. Pauli was the only woman in their class and was by no means cut any slack from their professor, Civil Rights attorney Spotswood Robinson. Under his tutelage, Pauli would write a thesis so noteworthy that it became the lifeblood of Brown v. Board. With Pauli’s thesis, Thurgood Marshall and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund were able to initiate the legal downfall of segregation in the education system. Join us this week to learn more about this powerhouse and the transmutation of personal struggles into collective advancement.
